Engineering specialist Peter Brotherhood Ltd has recently delivered a 15 MW steam turbine to a diesel combined cycle plant in Pakistan. The contract is valued at £2 million.
The Peterborough, UK-based company, which celebrated 140 years in business last year and 100 years of designing and manufacturing steam turbines, will install and commission the steam turbine at the refinery from February 2008.
The turbine will be driven by steam generated from the waste heat contained in the exhaust gases emitted from nine 17 MW four stroke diesel generator sets. The steam turbine and gearbox will be mounted on a combined bedplate, which incorporates an electronic governor, a PLC -based control and monitoring system and an air cooled generator.
Colin Lake, regional sales manager for steam turbines at Peter Brotherhood, said: “The specification for this new power plant included an overall cycle efficiency requirement that could only be met by the inclusion of a steam turbine-based waste heat recovery system.”
“With the increasing requirement for higher cycle efficiency and the continuing high price of fuel, it looks certain that more diesel engine power plants will have to be turned into combined cycle plants and this will open up further opportunities for our company.” Colin added.
